Designed for the new Personal Communications Services (PCS) frequencies, The BC-PCS extends coverage of the R-500 Series Field Strength Meters up to 1980 MHz. By combining a R-500 Series meter with the BC-PCS, users can now perform accurate signal level tests over the entire band assigned for PCS communications. The R-500 Series/BC-PCS system allows an operator to perform a variety of required measurements including: identifying existing interfering signals, doing site survey analysis with test transmitters and developing actual coverage maps of operating systems. The combined system provides all the measurements available with the R-500 Series, but at the microwave PCS frequencies. RS-232 serial port control for the combined system is just as useful and straight forward as it has been below 1000 MHz.
The R-500 Series meter, operating in conjunction with the BC-PCS, correctly displaying microwave signal levels on the R-500 Series LCD readout. Signal strength measurements are calibrated and accurate to within 2.5 dB and are traceable to NIST. Whether operating the system directly from the front panel or through the RS-232 serial port, the R-500 Series/BC-PCS measurement package provides accuracy and convenience.
The BC-PCS is a precision microwave Block Converter. It has been carefully designed with state of the art amplifiers, filters, a high level mixer and stable synthesized local oscillator. The product comes in a box which mounts directly on the R-500 Series front panel Type-N connector. It receives all necessary dc power from the meter. The block converter is designed with field usage in mind. Its shielded cast metal housing is small, rugged & light weight.
To install the BC-PCS, the operator simply screws the block converter's Type-N male output connector onto the R-500 Series meter Type-N female front panel input mating connector. A power cable, supplied with the BC-PCS, is attached to the meter rear panel accessory connector. Complete the installation by attaching an appropriate receiving antenna to the Type-N input terminal.

Note: The R-500 Series/BC-PCS system is designed to allow simultaneous signal strength measurements in both the 1750 - 1980 MHz and 800 -900 MHz bands. By installing a conventional RF combiner between the BC-PCS and the R-500 Series meter, signals from both bands can be accurately and rapidly measured either via the serial port or directly from the front panel.
